Opportunity Summary: The Category Manager manages and oversees categories and suppliers in the strategic sourcing department, primarily domestic, but may include international sourcing for Victory Packaging. This role will be involved, to varying degrees, with all aspects of the strategic sourcing process, including project planning, specifications development, supply market research and supplier engagement, evaluation, selection, and new supplier implementation. The Category Manager leads strategic sourcing activities for assigned sub-categories of spend, capturing savings through purchasing volume, negotiating price, working capital, rebates, terms and TCO contracts with suppliers in support of company goals and objectives. Manages in excess of $150 MM spend. The Category Manager also works closely with the Sr. Director, Strategic Sourcing to build a working relationship with functional stakeholder teams and suppliers to ensure effective implementation plans and cost savings / working capital strategies are executed, tracked, and continuously improved. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working independently and in a team environment.
How you will contribute to Victory Packaging, a WestRock Company:
Will lead cross-functional teams in design and execution of category sourcing strategies:
Develop packaging programs which can be sold regionally and nationally to existing and prospect customers.
Understand market trends, supplier base, and supplier economics for category.
Monitor and forecast market indexes relevant to pricing controls of key products, for example resin based and paper based product categories.
Build Sourcing Category Teams made of experts and stakeholders in the targeted category.
Leads supplier selection, negotiation, and implementation process.
Negotiate final agreements that are consistent with achieved negotiated results. Ensure agreements contain provisions that meet Company’s objectives and standards.
Work with suppliers and stakeholders to negotiate and complete Supplier agreements and other equivalent contracts.
Monitors business unit satisfaction with key suppliers and supports resolution of issues.
Maintains expertise in assigned spend categories
Remains current with market trends and internal customer needs through relationships with suppliers, market experts, sales organization, and branches.
Meets with suppliers to conduct regular business reviews and stay updated on business and upcoming changes that may affect Victory and suppliers.
Identifies and communicates new suppliers, innovative products and packaging solutions.
Ensure national agreements are in place and systems are updated for assigned areas.
Drive annual value improvements for categories
Provides fact based understanding of bottom line benefit of all decisions and opportunities.
Responsible for identifying cost saving opportunities and complete, or assist in completing, analysis to determine potential upside and a path to achieve value.
Insures compliance of internal controls as it relates to WestRock policies and procedures.
What it takes to succeed:
Willingness to travel to domestic locations and possible international locations as needed (10%).
Highly Capable in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and ability to support and lead data analytics
Significant experience with conducting category reviews including strategy development, supplier selection process and implementation of programs using various system tools.
Excellent communication, project management and relationship building skills
Strong organizational and presentation skills
