Victory Packaging Director, Strategic Sourcing in Houston, Texas

Position Summary: The Director of Strategic Sourcing is responsible for developing and directing the company’s sourcing strategies within the Regional Sourcing organization. Working cross-functionally, this role continuously improves sourcing processes to ensure strategic coordination of sourcing initiatives and supplier management. This role ensures that procured goods and services support quality, cost, service and innovation priorities, while adhering to Victory Packaging policies and practices. The Director of Strategic Sourcing reports to Vice President of Strategic Sourcing. This position will be based regionally in a Victory Packaging branch.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with sales team andinternal operations to analyze needs and formulate competitive bids.

  • Identifycontinuous improvement opportunities for streamlining processes related toquoting business, managing supplier performance, and remainingcompetitive to lowest total cost of goods.

  • Work withoperations, accounts payable, engineering and other cross-functionaldepartments to support sales and customers through the full life-cycle ofproducts.

  • Supportreplenishment specialists with ongoing inventory management needs relatedto approved suppliers and performance metrics.

  • Maintain awareness of key markettrends, products and supplier service offerings and drive strategicchanges to take advantage of available opportunities.

  • Work withRFQ/optimization and contract management applications

  • Leads a team of 4 to12 people as needed in procurement sourcing tomotivate, develops and rewards members through a leadership style that empowers their growth anddevelopment.

  • Responsible for providing totalcosts of ownership of custompackaging products goods requested by sales for prospective customers via RFQ or field selling.

  • Requestlive quotes from vendors as needed

  • Ensure teammembers are trained to calculatecost using our various matrices, and/or estimating costs based on addersand past history.

  • Create worksheetfor existing items, and populate data fields with information provided bycustomer or from ASW generated reports

  • Inform salesmanagers and business analyst of market conditions, pricing issues andcurrent competitive benefits.

  • Suggest any changes to currentpurchases and provide estimated cost evaluations foralternative sourcing

  • Respond torequests for information and product quotes.

  • Involve other Victory team membersin design or production of specific materials to meet customer needs.

  • Maintain high level of industryknowledge and remain up-to-date on new product development and relatedindustry issues.

  • Provide management communicationand reporting as directed.

  • Resolve customerconcerns by involving appropriate Victory team member or by engagingsenior management assistance.

  • Lead teams and participate in special promotions and strategic marketing efforts as required.

  • Closely follow all establishedpolicies, guidelines and pricing for customer accounts and service.

  • Provide timely feedback to management teamregarding pricing or customer concerns.

  • Model behavior and decision making that is consistent with VP’s culture, goals and policies.

  • Lead team of Regional Sourcing Specialists, including hiring, training, and performance metrics.


  • A Bachelor's degree or MBA in business, economics supply chain or related field is preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of enterprise level experience in strategic sourcing, supply chain management and/or procurement in a distribution organization preferred.

  • Ability to understand and apply market intelligence to sales strategy, specific knowledge of corrugated and packaging capabilities, preferred

  • Working knowledge of financial systems used within large organizations

  • High level of financial and business acumen

  • Ability to use technology and analysis tools (Excel, Outlook, Enterprise client systems, web, databases)

  • Ability to identify issues and communicate with team, management and clients

  • Ability to travel 10% or more as needed

  • Demonstrated excellent written communications, negotiation skills and strong interpersonal skills

  • High level of commitment to customer service and teamwork
